CHARGING & COASTING

CHARGING & COASTING

Rumors are floating about that non-compliance with President Obama’s most recent GHG (Green House Gas) Emissions rules will be $28,000 per day per truck-trailer out of compliance. The timing is unlucky as just last week, orders for large trucks plunged 37% to the lowest level since 2007, while at the same time, the U.S. Government reduced its estimates for GDP growth from 1.6% to 0.1%, a slim margin removed from recession levels.  Wholesale inventories fell 0.5%, sales fell 0.2%, and people across the nation are looking for the "Dip Ahead" sign. $28,000 per day is a steep price to pay in a bear market,...

CONFUSION, ANXIETY, & CLARITY

CONFUSION, ANXIETY, & CLARITY

History has shown that technological disruption comes with a reliable series of public reactions – first confusion, then anxiety, and finally clarity. We believe that the Hyliion solution is no different, and that we can learn from other disruptive trends along the supply chain. Imagine a few of the most newsworthy: Self-Driving Trucks: We are already beginning to see auto-piloted trucks on highways globally, and manufacturers are networking them all together in short-range ‘platoons’ for maximum fuel savings and safety. These initial tests are driving toward ‘National Highway Networkability’ which will ease congestion and speed deliveries nationwide. But prior to...

Government Disruption: Overview

Government Disruption: Overview

Weekly (going forward) we will take-on major issues such as: fuel costs, fleet maintenance and government mandates.  After all, the Obama administration along with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated that in 2018 heavy trucks and trailers will need to be 24% more fuel efficient than their published standards.  Even the EPA estimates that improvements will cost up to $12,000 for each and every Class 8 truck.   Janet McCabe (Head of the EPA’s air pollution office) told ‘The Hill’ that truck makers may need to use new technologies not yet commercially available in order...

On The Road With Hyliion

On The Road With Hyliion

We are Hyliion. We hybridize the trailer portion of a tractor-trailer combination.  That means our system uses regenerative braking to capture power when the trailer is slowing down, and reuses it by powering the trailer up hills.  We save you over 30% on fuel, making this decision cash flow positive in each and every month. And we improve our country’s energy footprint. The Hyliion system is good for the planet, good for people on the road, and a source of sustainable profit for the trucking industry. Drivers and industry professionals are saying: [blockquote quote="I have never heard of anything like...

BETA PROGRAM UPDATE

After months of development and testing in the factory, Hyliion has purchased a brand new Volvo D13 Tractor: the truck is a sleeper model with all of the finer accouterments like an in-cab refrigerator and microwave, allowing for extensive testing of overnight power consumption and reliability. Hyliion can now test and improve all aspects of the suspension system in the real world, from fuel consumption and maintenance requirements, to Auxiliary Power Unit performance and electronic stability control. This recent development follows months of testing using rental trucks and drivers with incremental improvements to the suspension system. The team at Hyliion is...
