Hyliion is looking for an Engineering Team Leader - Controls Verification & Quality to join our engineering team in Austin. We are seeking exceptionally talented individuals that are highly motivated to revolutionize the trucking industry, reduce the use of fuel and have some fun.

This is a multifaceted role with opportunity to have significant impact on Hyliion’s success. You will be the voice of quality within the embedded and controls organization. You will be the facilitator across product management, system engineering, and software development to define and ensure adherence to an end-to-end SDLC. You will ensure we deliver quality software with predictability and transparency. In this role, you will lead a team of engineers and have the opportunity to help define and grow an organization capable of ensuring future software quality at scale.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead team of engineers in controls and software verification and quality management.
  • Lead ASPICE implementation and methodology.
  • Lead automotive embedded controls and software testing, verification, and validation.
  • Develop HIL, including regression test framework, to drive controls and software quality.
  • Quality Process Management: Define, Manage, and Report on the overall SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) for the Embedded Software.
  • Develop, present, and drive metrics associated with software quality: requirement change management, stability, test coverage, defect density, defect tracking, requirement coverage, etc.
  • Ensure embedded software is tested, stable, and predictable, and can be used for controls integration and calibration efforts.
  • Ensure controls integration and calibration team receives stable, functional, quality software that has been thoroughly tested prior to vehicle calibration.
  • Lead the program release management activities: Release Testing, Release Notes, Engineering Change Request and Notification, and deliver complete software release to the program.
  • Manage and execute software verification and quality project plan including Sprint Planning and roadmap, and cross-functional coordination to develop project timelines and deliver on time with quality.
  • Provide technical feedback and coaching to team of engineers. Provide assessment and feedback on personnel related matters.

Qualifications include:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of experience in relevant engineering roles
  • 5+ years of experience in Automotive or Trucking industries

Specialized knowledge/Professional Certifications (preferred)

  • Masters degree in engineering preferred.

Skills

  • Automotive embedded software and controls engineering experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of ASPICE and how to apply it in a formalized process.
  • Knowledge and experience with major automotive or Class 8 systems (emissions, OBD, powertrain, electrical, thermal, high-voltage, drivetrain, CAN, J1939 etc.)
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • Experience with formal requirements management tools (Jama, Jira, etc.) and systems engineering principles.
  • Knowledge and experience with tools including MATLAB, Simulink, ETAS, dSpace, Vector, etc.
  • Knowledge of Hardware in the Loop (HIL) development practices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • ASPICE Provisional Assessor (or above)
  • Agile and/or Project Management certification
  • Technical Program Management
  • Vendor / OEM Relationship management and communication
  • Experience and knowledge in HIL development best practices: HIL bench bring-up, maintenance, plant model development, regression testing, component integration, etc.
  • Understanding of automotive powertrain systems including both traditional and electrified.
  • Experience with ISO26262.
  • Strong follow-through and self-starting nature
  • Ability to communicate with customers (internal and external) in an effective and positive way both written and verbally, to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments.
  • Individual should be highly analytical and can work effectively with a diverse team to solve problems and present information.
  • Proven ability in managing multiple projects, priorities, and assignments with accountability.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions.
  • Position will involve travel (10-15% of time) to visit, work with, and evaluate engineering providers and hardware suppliers.
  • Ability to work well in a high-paced environment, set and meet appropriate deadlines.
  • Ability to facilitate, influence, and collaborate across the organization.
