It is with great sadness that Hyliion shares the passing of its Chairman of the Board and founding investor Edward Olkkola on December 15, 2022. Mr. Olkkola was Hyliion’s first board member, serving on the board since 2016, and was Chief Operating Officer from January 2018 to October 2018. Mr. Olkkola passed away after a valiant battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

“Ed served both the Board and Hyliion with deep commitment and passion. He leaves behind a legacy of leadership, and he embodied Hyliion’s core values of integrity and changing the world. As a founding investor in Hyliion, he was instrumental to the creation and growth of the company and we are all grateful to have benefited from his experience and wisdom,” said Thomas Healy, founder and CEO of Hyliion.

“Beyond his contributions to the organization, he was a friend and mentor to me, and I know that I will not be alone in feeling his absence. He will be greatly missed by the Hyliion team and community. We will carry forward on our mission, which Ed so strongly believed in, to revolutionize the trucking industry,” added Healy.

During his career, Mr. Olkkola has served on over sixty boards and brought over a dozen new products to market. He held patents in core communications and network technologies including voice recognition, home networking real-time signal processing, and high-speed digital network switching.

With an illustrious investment and technology-focused career, Mr. Olkkola most recently served as a Managing Director of Teakwood Capital, where he managed private equity investment funds focused on micro-cap portfolio companies. Previously, Mr. Olkkola was a General Partner at Austin Ventures and held management roles at Compaq and Motorola. At Compaq, he co-founded their Venture Fund, and with partners at Teakwood Capital and Austin Ventures, raised over $2 billion in venture and private equity funds.
