Hypertruck™ Platform
This software-defined range-extender powertrain platform serves as the basis for the ERX™ system. Capable of being adapted to different fuel and generator types, as customer and regulatory demand dictates, the controls, software, and hardware that make up Hypertruck form the foundation of Class 8’s first range-extended electrified powertrain. The platform is easily updated over-the-air and uses IoT concepts to provide an entirely new operational experience.
KARNO™ Generator
The additive manufacturing enabled KARNO generator uses heat to drive a sealed linear generator to produce electricity. That heat is produced by reacting one of over 20 compatible fuels through flameless oxidation. This unique generator technology can be used in multiple different applications, in transportation and outside of it. As a result of its novel design, it reduces emissions and maintenance, and improves efficiency, when compared with a traditional internal combustion engine.
Software
Software is at the core of what we do at Hyliion. In a powertrain or in the cloud, we utilize software to add value to the customer and user experience. It started with controls software, in the form of Hyliion Hybrid’s performance algorithms and controls, ultimately evolving into Hypertruck. The cloud was there all along though, with our look-ahead geozone technology, and most recently, Hyliion Hub. Controlling it all from an HMI perspective is Hyliion CoPilot.
Batteries
Hyliion utilizes a proprietary BMS and module design to integrate Toshiba’s LTO cells into the Hyliion Hybrid. It is uniquely suited to the application, allowing the system to be charged entirely through recovered kinetic energy. Through this design, we’ve achieved longer battery life, higher charging rates, and improved safety.
